Calendarial Extra Credit

If Sep- means seven (septillion), Oct- means eight (octopus), Non- means nine (nonagon), and Dec- means ten (decimal), then why is

September the 9th month of the year;
October the 10th month of the year;
November the 11th month of the year; and
December the 12th month of the year?

DO NOT post the answer on the website. I will collect all correct responses on Monday.
Enjoy!

An Octopus has eight tentacles, not ten.

I don't have the worksheet with me right now, Kevin; can you figure out the number based on the historical context?
If not, just skip that one.
